JOHN F. GALLAGHER

Dr. John F. Gallagher is principal of Gallagher Associates, a full-service support company that works with non-profit organizations. The company is based in Las Vegas, Nevada. He established Gallagher Associates in 2006 to assist non-profits to improve their business practices, fundraising programs, and board activities. Work with clients also includes staff training and assistance identifying and recruiting executives for key organizational roles. Gallagher Associates works with clients in Nevada, New Mexico, California, and the Pacific Northwest.

Prior to founding Gallagher Associates, Dr. Gallagher served for twelve years as the Vice President for Development at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where he was also the Executive Director of the UNLV Foundation. In these roles, he served as the University’s chief development officer and led all of UNLV’s fundraising programs, including the planning and execution of a $500 million comprehensive fundraising campaign. This campaign was the largest campaign so far undertaken by the University and the largest fundraising campaign ever in Nevada.

While at UNLV he also oversaw the active management of approximately $200 million in assets for the benefit of the University. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the UNLV Research Foundation, the organization that manages UNLV’s intellectual property and builds and manages the University’s research park.

Prior to his recruitment to UNLV in 1995, Gallagher was Vice President for University Relations at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. In addition to his fundraising and community relations roles, in his 36-year career he has also served as both a university faculty member and as a dean. In addition to UNLV and the University of Puget Sound, he has also worked at Seattle University, The Evergreen State College, Saint Martin’s University, and the University of Washington.

Dr. Gallagher has published articles in professional journals and the popular press, and is active in regional and national professional organizations in fundraising. As a University officer, he served on two occasions as a member the Board of Directors of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VII-Far West.

Dr. Gallagher received his BA degree from Saint Martin’s College in 1969. He receieved his MA degree in 1970 and his Ph.D. in 1973, both in political science, from the University of Washington. He is married and has 2 adult sons.
